I have always been very interested in the relationships between humans and animals. I see these relationships as often very contradicting. They can entail companionship, but also cruelty. They can entail love but also neglect. They can entail respect, but also ignorance. My film is about Dierenthuis, an animal sanctuary for animals who don’t fit into our society anymore, for any reason. Dierenthuis is a place where these animals can stay happily and healthy for the rest of their lives. The workers do everything they can to provide the best care for the animals. I was immediately intrigued. I am very grateful that I was able to do my research at Dierenthuis, as the workers and the animals taught me so much about patience, respect and love between different species. I hope you’ll join me in my learning process in this film.
