Andrea De Angelis, 25, Italian, is a Leiden University graduate with a specialization in Visual Ethnography. Extremely passionate about photography, filmmaking, and graphic design, he tries to combine these passions with other interests, such as migration, social movements and advocacy networks, and the industry of football. He is the co-founder of TRACCIAROMA, a multimodal project about the historical, cultural, and artistic heritage of the city of Rome.

“MORE THAN JUST A FOOTBALL SHIRT” is an interactive album-zine on amateur football and migration in Rome, Italy.

My research project wants to demonstrate how the commodity par excellence of the football world, namely the football shirt, acquires deeper and broader meanings and values which transcend the economic and capitalistic realms usually associated to such an object. During my research I interacted with six members of the Liberi Nantes amateur football club, a team in Rome which welcomes players from all around the world, including numerous refugees and asylum seekers. All together, we co-created knowledge on football, material culture, and personal histories of migration.
