‘ZORGEN’ is a personal portrait of Inge, whose job as a professional careworker intertwines with her role as a familial caregiver for her mother, who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In conversation with her daughter and filmmaker, the film comments on troubling issues commonly experienced by careworkers in Dutch healthcare. Through a reunion with her old colleagues from 40 years ago, they recall good memories, while also critically reflecting on the developments of their jobs. ‘Zorgen’, touching on its double meaning in Dutch, reflects both the careworker’s wholehearted passion of ‘taking care of/carring for’, as well as the ‘worry’ of the current state of care in the Netherlands.
