In the middle of a Norwegian winter, when daylight is scarce and our senses turn inward, this poetic documentary gently redirects our gaze outward. It follows archaeologist and ecologist Jurgen Wegter through the landscapes he inhabits, moving alongside him as he encounters both human and more-than-human worlds. Balancing observational material with poetic montage, the film becomes a conversation — between us and our environments, between perception and technology, and between ways of knowing.
The film grew from a desire to explore how the camera — along with other recording devices — can become a participant in the more-than-human world, rather than simply a witness. It is not necessarily about finding anything specific, but rather about being present in the experience. Viewers are invited into sensorial worlds that move beyond the everyday and the mundane, opening space for new ways of interpreting our surroundings. Through moments of intimacy and attentiveness, the film offers an invitation to notice, to wonder, and to participate in the wonders of being alive and sentient.
Bio

My name is Nienke Winkel. With a background in biological sciences, and now holding a Master’s in Visual Ethnography, I have embarked on my journey to become an interdisciplinary tree. Rooted in a passion for immersive and intuitive storytelling, I have started to explore environmental anthropology and more-than-human worlds. Driven by an interest in sensorial and creative research, I hope to continue to tell stories that deepen the connection between our senses and the sensuous earth.
