There is a Tree Outside My Window is a film about the residents of Heddlestone Village, a cohousing community in Canada. Due to their location; a forest near the remote town of Nelson, the residents of Heddlestone have a close relationship with wildlife. Following multiple perspectives, the film explores the connections residents have with wildlife and delves into a topic that has caused tension in the community: an electrified wildlife fence. To explore this, the film uses animation as a way of questioning and adding layers to the way observational cinema portrays social realities.
Bio

Hi! My name is Isis van Melzen, a storyteller who likes to try everything at least once. Being an illustrator and an anthropologist, I like to creatively poke and dive into topics. And I am interested in a wild range of things, including sustainability, politics and animals with silly species names.
