Roos van Leerdam (1998, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
I am an anthropologist and filmmaker interested in alternative movements and activism. In researching activism I focus on ways in which people claim power over their own life. I prefer to research people who pique my curiosity and who inspire me. I aspire to combine cinematic art with social science to bring across peoples’ knowledge and life experiences to broader audiences.
During this master I did visual ethnographic research on the imagined future of young climate activists connected to the Extinction Rebellion movement in the Netherlands. I made an ethnographic film, Another world is possible, about these activists and the effect this future had on them. With this film, I hope to contribute to the climate movement and show the relevance of the climate crisis.
