A Story About Sonic Diaspora

“A story about sonic diaspora”, is the intimate story that unravels the experiences of djs Mehran a.k.a. Moody Mehran and Moataz a.k.a. Disco Arabesquo whose diasporic roots lie in the SWANA region. Mehran and Moataz profoundly commit their work to creating platforms that foster cross-cultural dialogue and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of diversity in the Dutch electronic music scene. In this film questions, negotiations and struggles about the complexity of diasporic identities arise that resonate with not only me as a filmmaker, but presumably many others of diasporic heritage. Mehran and Moataz were kind enough to share their personal story of self-discovery and its translation to their artistic expressions. This film underscores the transformative power of music as a bridge between cultures and the significance of cultural diversity in the Dutch electronic music scene.
